So much has been the latters impact that these composers have made a huge difference to the sensibilities of the music lovers.
Amit Trivedi debuted as a composer with Aamir, and went on to hit it big time with his tracks in Dev.D that incorporated Rajasthani folk, rock music, band-bajaa, semi-classical, Punjabi, funky house and various other genres. Amit tells us why he ventured towards a new kind of music. The compositions came to me very naturally, which normally is not the case. I always wanted to move away from the conventional form of music. While composing the tracks, I never had the commercial audience in mind. It was a newness that I was looking for. Especially the music in Dev.D came from a different set of brain cells altogether. I have no idea how it worked, chuckles Amit.
Veteran theatre artiste, Piyush Mishra, who had the audience in awe with his phenomenal talent in Gulaal, says, I have been in theatre for almost 25 years now. I have been very active there, and it has helped me. My music is my own. Its not that I have consciously taken a break from the existing music. It was something I was inspired to do keeping the script in mind.
Although Saawariya didnt do well at the box office, it is still remembered for its New Age tunes from first-time composer Monty Sharma. Monty says, A music director has to experiment with new forms of music and do it with a lot of conviction. The business angle has to be certainly looked into, but what is more important is the passion with which you advance the cause of music. Monty believes that creative freedom is very important for a music director whether he is new or a veteran. It is this passion for creative freedom that has let to the birth of a new sound that film lovers are in love with.
